TGES and Getworks partner on containerized data centers using underutilized sites

TGES, a subsidiary of Tokyo Gas, and data center operator Getworks have entered into a business partnership to develop containerized data centers on underutilized land. By utilizing existing facilities and infrastructure, the companies aim to accelerate project deployment while increasing the value of idle assets. They are already conducting detailed assessments of specific candidate sites.

TGES offers a service that combines grid power with distributed energy resources, including gas cogeneration systems, to supply electricity to data centers. The approach is expected to help address grid constraints and lengthy connection timelines. Getworks has developed more than 300 containerized data center units in Japan and is considered one of the country’s leading companies in this field.

TGES and Wärtsilä assess off-grid data center power solutions

TGES announced that it will work with Finnish marine engine manufacturer Wärtsilä to jointly conduct technical assessments of power systems for off-grid data centers. The companies plan to colocate on-site generation facilities and large-scale BESS with data centers, creating systems that do not rely on the external grid. This would potentially allow data centers to begin operating without waiting for grid infrastructure to be developed. No off-grid data center is currently in operation in Japan. The companies will evaluate the optimal equipment configuration and aim to bring the solution to market as soon as possible.
