Eurus Energy develops Japan’s first data center directly powered by a wind farm via private transmission line

Eurus Energy Holdings is developing what will become Japan’s first data center to be powered by a wind farm via a private transmission line, with operations set to start in 2027.

The 3 MW Soya Green Data Center I is under construction in Wakkanai City, Hokkaido next to the 42 MW Kabaoka Wind Farm. managed by Eurus Energy. A dedicated transmission linel will link the two, supplying the data center directly with wind-generated electricity. The company recently marked the completion of the project’s first structural column.

Following this project, Eurus Energy Holdings aims to eventually develop Soya Green Data Center II and III. The company hopes to create a data center cluster that will contribute to the revitalization of the local economy.

Tohoku Electric opens containerized AI data center in Miyagi to meet growing demand for GPU server capacity

Tohoku Electric Power and container data center provider Getworks have jointly developed the Miyagi AI Data Center, a containerized data center in Shichigahama, Miyagi Prefecture, designed to accommodate next-generation, high-performance graphics processing unit (GPU) servers. 

The facility will provide housing services by leasing space for GPU servers. Its 10 containers can accommodate 100–300 servers, and customers have already contracted for around half of the facility’s total capacity. 

The head of Tohoku Electric’s Digital Transformation Promotion Department said that although data centers are concentrated in the Tokyo and Osaka metropolitan areas, the Tohoku region could also be suitable for customers seeking to install servers quickly. The director emphasized that a key advantage of the containerized model is that the company can prepare the installation site while customers procure their GPUs.
