J-Enerlytics is our flagship suite of products, delivering you the latest news and data from the Japanese power market.

Currently, we offer two products in this line: a monthly market monitor focused on analytical commentary and a free monthly data report. We are also in the process of developing custom data services to give you access to the latest data in the form best suited to your needs.

Monthly Market Monitor

This report covers the latest developments in the Japanese power market. Along with industry news, each edition provides analytical commentary on the most interesting and important topics from the market, policy and regulatory landscape. The report consists of the following sections:

  • Features – Each month, we explore one to three topics in detail to give you insight into the past, present, and future of the Japanese power market.
  • Power Generation Mix Outlook – In this section, you will find the latest on Japan’s progress towards its FY 2030 targets for a cleaner power generation mix. We track the actual breakdown of power generation type against the targets, the operational status of Japan’s nuclear power plants, commissioning of new and decommissioning of old power plants of all types, and the expansion of renewable generation capacity. Finally, against this background, we analyze the most important developments concerning the evolution of Japan’s power generation mix.
  • National News – Covering industry and market as well as regulation and policy developments, in this section we curate and analyze the most important news items affecting the country’s power industry.
  • Regional News – Zeroing in on each of Japan’s ten grid zones, this section presents the most important power-related regional news.

Monthly Data Report

In our power market data report, you get the key data from the Japanese power market in an easy-to-digest format. The report consists of three sections:

  • System-wide Data – This section contains the breakdown of installed capacity, generation, daily wholesale electricity prices, spreads between wholesale prices in the different grid zones, consumption, and demand (actual and weather-adjusted).
  • Electricity Futures Data – In this section, prices of base and peak load electricity future prices for TOCOM East (Tokyo) and TOCOM West (Kansai) areas are presented.
  • Data by Grid Zone – The last section of the report contains largely the same data as the System-wide Data section, but broken down by grid zone. Data from all nine contiguous, interconnected zones (Hokkaido, Tohoku, Tokyo, Chubu, Hokuriku, Kansai, Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu) is included.
