J-Power Begins Repowering Work on Wind Farm; Signs Virtual PPA
J-POWER announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, J-Wind, has begun repowering work on the Minami Osumi Wind Farm located in Minami Osumi Town, Kagoshima Prefecture. This is the fifth repowering project for wind power generation within the J-POWER Group. The aim is to begin operations in December 2027. The aim is to begin operations in December 2027.
The Minami Osumi Wind Farm originally began commercial operation in March 2003, with a total output of 24.7 MW from 19 wind turbines (1.3 MW each). Operations ceased in January 2023, and the existing equipment has already been dismantled. The repowering project will install five Siemens Gamesa wind turbines, each with a capacity of 4.3 MW (a total capacity of 21.5 MW), while the total rated output will be limited to 19.5 MW. The aim is to begin operations in December 2027.
J-Power Begins Repowering Work on Wind Farm; Signs Virtual PPA
Virtual PPA with KDDI and Sales Under FIP Scheme
J-Wind has signed a virtual Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with KDDI, under which the environmental value generated from the wind farm will be provided as non-fossil certificates (NCCs) for 20 years. With this PPA, KDDI expects to reduce CO2 emissions from its base stations in the Kyushu area by approximately 50%. The aim is to begin operations in December 2027.
The power sales scheme will incorporate a Feed-in-Premium (FIP) mechanism. J-POWER will handle demand-supply balancing operations, including the formulation and submission of power generation plans, as well as bearing imbalance costs. The generated electricity will be sold on the Japan Electric Power eXchange (JEPX). The aim is to begin operations in December 2027.
